The annual Kite Festival in Bali is a unique event that has been held for many years, where people exhibit their unique kite designs on Sanur Beach. Inspired by the festival, Artotel Sanur adopted kites as its main concept. Officially established in April 2016, Artotel Sanur is a boutique hotel featuring evocative artworks from contemporary Balinese artists.

Since its inception, Artotel Sanur - Bali has collaborated with local artists to display their work, artworks such as wall paintings painted by local artists. Furthermore, Artotel ARTSPACE functions as a contemporary gallery and displays works of art and installations by local artists. The Artotel Sanur – Bali’s building has an open space concept and is decorated with green plants, in line with their principles on environmental sustainability. Sustainable Practices

Artotel Sanur supports the 'No Single Use Plastic' program to tackle the problem of plastic waste and preserve the environment. Several efforts have been made, namely not using plastic straws and replacing them with paper straws which are more environmentally friendly and mineral water in single-use plastic bottles are replaced with mineral water in glass bottles that can be refilled in the rooms and throughout the hotel area.

 

Collaborating with the Hotel Hospitality forum in the Sanur area, Artotel Sanur carries out cleaning activities every three months and participates in the World Clean Up Day event, where they participate in beach cleanups along with the local communities in the area. Tree planting in the Sanur Beach area is carried out regularly, this is a form of cooperation with the local village authority of Banjar Danau Tamblingan, where Artotel Sanur is located.

 

To conserve water, Artotel Sanur uses two water management systems, namely in collaboration with the Denpasar Sewage Development Project (DSDP), an independent water management using a water filtration system so that water can be filtered and reused for watering plants and cleaning activities. In addition, efforts to save water involving their guests are also carried out, namely installing signs in the rooms and bathrooms regarding the use of sufficient water, the use of towels, and the replacement of bed linen. Agus Ade Suryawirawan, General Manager of Artotel Sanur - Bali said, "Significant water savings can be seen, from 20-25% decrease in monthly operating costs and also savings in laundry, we can see the movement before implementing these signs and the perceived decrease is 20-24 percent. 30% per month.”

 

Several energy conservation efforts have been carried out by Artotel Sanur, namely replacing conventional bulbs with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and installing a timer so that the use of lights in several hotel areas can be arranged according to a predetermined schedule. Artotel Sanur achieved 15-20% savings from this effort, a significant decrease.

 

Artotel Sanur - Bali has good waste management and separates its waste according to predefined categories, namely organic waste, non-organic waste and Toxic and Hazardous (B3) waste. Organic waste and non-organic waste are first separated by the hotel and handed over to a waste management company from the local village. Artotel Sanur - Bali has designated a special B3 area which has been certified by the local government.

 

To support sustainable tourism, socio-economic aspects are important for Artotel Sanur - Bali. As an inclusive hotel, Artotel Sanur - Bali is disability friendly. Wheelchair access is available in the lobby, a wheelchair-only lift, and special rooms close to the reception area and restaurant to ensure the comfort and satisfaction of guests with special needs.

 

To support local socio-economic conditions, Artotel Sanur - Bali supplies groceries from locals, namely residents of the Sanur area, Bali. Artotel Sanur prioritizes employing local people and ensures that all staff receive regular training to provide the best service to guests. In addition to ensuring guest satisfaction, Artotel Sanur ensures staff job satisfaction by holding a special program, namely the Artist Satisfaction Survey every 6 months. Artotel Sanur opens opportunities for Tourism College students to conduct Field Work Training and has collaborated with the Bali International Business and Tourism College of Denpasar, English Club, Elizabeth International Denpasar, Monarch Bali, Bali State Polytechnic.

 

To promote Balinese culture, Artotel Sanur - Bali organized Archipelago Night, a cultural evening event at their Lidah Lokal restaurant. This event was enlivened by local dancers who performed typical Balinese dances alongside servings of Indonesian delicacies, especially from Balinese cuisine.

 

Joining Signing Blue

Artotel Sanur - Bali joined Signing Blue in 2019 as they have the same ideals in terms of their principles on environmental sustainability and socio-cultural tourism. Artotel Sanur feels the benefits of implementing sustainability programs such as savings in energy and water. Artotel Sanur was helped by the Standard Operating Procedures suggested by Signing Blue for their waste management and planning for environmentally friendly activities. An event that is carried out every year is Earth Hour which involves the hotel and its guests not using electricity for one hour.

 

In collaboration with WWF-Indonesia, Artotel Sanur - Bali organized a program to recycle unused linen for resale. The linen is recycled into bags and the proceeds from the sales are donated to sustainable programs related to nature conservation. This program is one of the sustainability programs belonging to the Artotel Group, Artotel Earth, in collaboration with WWF-Indonesia.

 

Facing the Pandemic Period

Artotel Sanur – Bali’s response to the Pandemic is by increasing the comfort of guests staying so that guests can feel a 'normal' atmosphere when staying at the hotel, this is proven by the number of guests returning. Artotel Sanur ensures the prime condition of all areas, especially rooms, the comfort and safety of guests is guaranteed with the 'I Do Care' or Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) certification issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) Republic of Indonesia in December 2020 with a perfect score.

 

Standard Operating Procedures have been established and must be followed by all staff and guests. The addition of hand washing basins, hand sanitizers, and reminders for the COVID-19 virus have been implemented. Guests who come are required to check their temperature and wash their hands before entering the hotel area. Signs for the mandatory wearing of masks, diligent hand washing, and social distancing have been placed at many points in the hotel area. The process of sterilization and disinfection is often carried out when guests leave. Artotel Sanur - Bali provides a temporary isolation room to anticipate guests who are unwell, in accordance with directions from the central government's CHSE program. Artotel Sanur - Bali collaborates with the nearest clinic, namely the Vendata clinic, for a fast response and health workers who are always ready to pick up guests and carry out further necessary treatment.
